Orisa watched them, his anger giving way to a cold, bitter satisfaction. “This is the price of defying a god,” he said, his voice devoid of pity. “But do not think this is the end, Adesewa. You will be mine, whether you wish it or not. Your love of this mortal will fade, but my power is eternal.”
With those words, Orisa vanished, leaving Adesewa alone with her grief. The storm subsided, and the village of Ikole fell silent, the air heavy with sorrow.
For days, Adesewa mourned Adebayo, refusing to eat or drink. She could not bear the thought of life without him, of living under the shadow of Orisa’s claim. Her heart was broken, and her spirit shattered, but even in her despair, she knew that she could not allow Orisa to win.
On the seventh day, Adesewa made a decision. She would not let her love be taken from her, not even by a god. She went to the sacred grove, the place where she and Adebayo had spent so many nights together, and there she called out to the spirits of the land, begging for their help.
The spirits heard her cries, and they appeared before her, taking the form of the wind, the trees, and the earth itself. “What do you seek, Adesewa?” they asked, their voices a gentle whisper on the breeze.
“I seek to end this war of love,” Adesewa replied, her voice trembling with determination. “Orisa has taken everything from me, but I will not let him take my love. Please, grant me the power to defeat him, to free myself from his grasp.”
The spirits were moved by Adesewa’s plea, and they granted her a gift—a necklace made from the roots of the oldest tree in the forest, a symbol of the enduring power of love. “Wear this necklace, Adesewa,” the spirits said. “It will protect you from Orisa’s power, but remember, love is a force that cannot be commanded. It must be freely given.”
With the necklace around her neck, Adesewa felt a newfound strength coursing through her. She returned to the village, where she found Orisa waiting for her, his eyes filled with a mixture of desire and anger.
“Do you still defy me, Adesewa?” Orisa demanded, his voice tinged with disbelief.
“I do,” Adesewa replied, her voice strong and unwavering. “I will not be your bride, Orisa. My love for Adebayo is eternal, and not even you can take that from me.”
